Master of Science in Forensic Science (M.S.F.S.)

Note

The Interdisciplinary Core is designed to acquaint students with multiple facets of forensic science. It is important for students to understand how different emphases, or specialty areas, can be intertwined during an investigation. Students are not required to complete the overview within their own emphasis.

Computer Science Information Systems Emphasis (11-12 Credits)

• MSFS 6150 - Cyber Crime 3 credits
• MSFS 6250 - Digital Forensics 3 credits
• MSFS 6450 - Network & Internet Forensics 3 credits

• Remaining overview course not selected for credit in the Interdisciplinary Core Coursework 2 credits OR
• MSFS 6140 - Forensic Firearms Examination 2 credits

• PADM 6720 - Criminal Justice Policy 3 credits OR
• PADM 6440 - Research Methods 3 credits

Criminal Justice Emphasis (11-12 Credits)

• CJ 6110 - Crime Scene Techniques 3 credits
• CJ 6220 - Serial & Mass Murder Investigations 3 credits
• CJ 6320 - Surveillance & Intelligence in the Criminal Investigations 3 credits
• MSFS 6140 - Forensic Firearms Examination 2 credits
• MSFS 6145 - Forensic Firearms Exam Lab 1 credits
• PADM 6720 - Criminal Justice Policy 3 credits

Psychology Emphasis (11 credits)

• PADM 6440 - Research Methods 3 credits
• MSFS 6120 - Legal Psychology 3 credits
• MSFS 6220 - Psychology of Criminal Behavior 3 credits
• PSY 6830 - Readings in Forensic Psychology 1 to 3 credits

Note

Students in Criminal Justice, Computer Science, and Psychology may choose either a 6 credit Thesis Project OR a 3 credit Internship and a 3 credit Professional Project. Students may also substitute MPA Research Methods for 3 credits as long as they also complete a 3 credit Professional Project or Thesis.
