Graduate Reading Endorsement (Utah State Basic Reading Endorsement and Level 2 Reading Specialist))

Requirements (21-30 Credits)

In addition to the minimum requirements, applicants to this program must also submit:

Proof of teaching license or equivalent
One letter of reference from most recent education supervisor (superintendent or principal)

Recommended sequence of courses:

EDRG 6320 - Advanced Content Area Literacy and Common Core 3 credits
EDRG 6330 - Teaching with Literature 3 credits
EDRG 6340 - Foundations of Literacy 3 credits
EDRG 6345 - Adv Early Literacy & Language Development 3 credits
EDRG 6350 - Literacy Assessment & Intervention 3 credits
EDRG 6370 - Teaching Process Writing 3 credits
EDRG 6380 - Advanced Reading Comprehension 3 credits

In addition to the above seven courses, the following three courses lead to a Utah State Advanced Reading Endorsement/Specialist.

EDRG 6385 - Research in Reading 3 credits
EDRG 6390 - Supervising Literacy Programs 3 credits
EDRG 6890 - Reading Specialist Internship 3 credits

Note

5000 level courses are available for SUU/School District Reading Endorsement Professional Learning Community Programs.

As of January 1, 2011, students who apply for the Level 1 Basic Reading Endorsement must also pass the Praxis Teaching Reading (0204) with a score of 154 or higher.
