Program Summary
A minor in photography will provide experiences directed towards developing photographic skills:
- Camera operations
- Traditional and digital technology practices
- Composition strategies
- Creative, artistic, and aesthetic sensibilities
This minor goes beyond the simple role of photography as documentation. It aims to give students the conceptual tools to make (and look at) photographs critically and to be able to analyze their effectiveness as a means of visual communication and expression. The photography minor will benefit any student with a sustained interest in photography by providing a practical mix of artistic and professional experiences. It is advantageous to those students majoring in Marketing, Communication, English, Graphic Design, and the Sciences.
Program Information
- All courses must be passed with a “C” (2.0) or better to be counted in the minor.
- Transfer students must complete at least 50% of their art credits at SUU.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Develop proficiency in the processes and technologies used in photography including: design, lighting, color, darkroom techniques, and digital applications.
- Attain competency in the principles and techniques of communicating information, ideas, moods, and feelings through photographic images.
- Gain functional knowledge of the history of photography.
- Create photographs that demonstrates conceptual understanding and technical facility.
