Program Summary
The Minor in Ceramics, offered by the Department of Filmmaking, Art, and Design, provides students with a range of techniques and skills for the production of ceramic art. Students will be exposed to and research historical and contemporary models of ceramic art. Students will also explore advanced sculptural methods for ceramic art, including hand-built and wheel-thrown techniques.
Program Information
- All courses must be passed with a “C” (2.0) or better to be counted in the minor.
- Transfer students must complete at least 50% of their art credits at SUU.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Develop competence in the techniques, materials, and processes used in ceramic production including hand-building, sculpture, wheel-throwing, and firing.
- Effectively use the elements and principles of design to solve 3-dimensional narrative, conceptual, and aesthetic problems and perceptively analyze and evaluate artwork.
- Gain awareness of the origins of ceramics in art history as well as knowledge of the commercial applications of 3-dimensional ceramic art.
- Create 3-dimensional artwork that competently demonstrates perceptual acuity, conceptual understanding, and technical facility.
