Requirements for Teacher Candidates


To qualify for the teaching license, students must complete the sequence of professional education courses listed by the department of teacher education. (See Professional Education Requirements for Secondary Licensure at the end of this section.) Students may be recommended for the Utah Basic Professional Licensure within secondary education by earning the bachelor’s degree and satisfactorily completing the major/minor program. Those working toward the major may also select an appropriate minor.

Professional Education Requirements for Secondary Licensure


Please see the degree requirements for Secondary Education Licensure . Some classes required for the licensure cannot be taken until the teacher candidate has been admitted to the Teacher Education Department. Please consult your advisor or the Teacher Education Department for further instruction.

French Degree Requirements


The first four semesters of French or equivalent studies as approved by the department are required for all students majoring or minoring in language with an emphasis in French. Students who demonstrate advanced proficiency may receive credit by examination for some or all of the following classes: FREN 1010 , FREN 1020  or FREN 1030 ; FREN 2010 , FREN 2020

Experiential Education University Requirement - EDGE Program (3 Credits)


NOTE: As of 7/12/2019, students pursuing this bachelor’s degree are no longer required to complete the EDGE courses for graduation.

BA Degree - Foreign Language Requirements (16 credits or proficiency test)


All students must satisfy these requirements before achieving advanced standing. All French majors and minors have the following core courses which must be satisfied.

Other Electives


  • Free Electives as approved by the Advisor may be taken to complete the BA degree requirements to reach 120 total credits

Note


No course for which a grade lower than “C-” is received may be counted toward the credit hour requirement for any major or minor emphasis in the department.
