Social Science Composite Mission Statement

Southern Utah University offers a composite degree in Social Sciences for those who are seeking licensure in Secondary Education. The composite degree offers the possibility of employment in several Social Science disciplines.

General Education Core (32-35 Credits)

Social Science Composite Curriculum Summary


Required Courses (52 credits minimum in Social Sciences):


Complete 18-credit minimum requirement in History:


A minimum of 24 credits is required from Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology or Anthropology:


Choose from the following courses:

Free Electives (17 Credits)


Free Electives 17 Credits (includes completing B.A./B.S. requirement)

Additional credits to reach the minimum of 52 will be from electives in the Social Sciences subjects

Free Electives may be taken (to complete BA/BS requirements, recommended free electives from the Department, etc.) as required to reach 120 total credits.

Total Credits, B.A. degree: 120


Note


Teaching License Information: SOSC 4900 , SOSC 4980 , and HIST 3870 - History of Utah  are required to receive a teaching license in Utah. 

No grade below a C- is acceptable toward this major.

Any SOC or ANTH upper division 3 credit course will satisfy requirement.

Professional Education Requirements for Secondary Licensure


Please see the degree requirements for Secondary Education Licensure . Some classes required for the licensure cannot be taken until the teacher candidate has been admitted to the Teacher Education Department. Please consult your advisor or the Teacher Education Department for further instruction.
