Sociology Minor

Sociology Mission Statement

The sociology program prepares students for life in a diverse society by introducing them to applied and conceptual tools that aid in a more thorough understanding of social structure, social processes, group values, attitudes and beliefs. Sociology supports the general education requirements, integrates service-learning in several courses, and prepares students for graduate degree programs in addition to careers in teaching, social work, and a variety of administrative and research occupations

Required Sociology Courses (9 Credits)

SOC 1010 - Introduction to Sociology 3 credits or
SOC 1020 - Social Problems 3 credits
SOC 3780 - Social Theory 3 credits

Choose one of the following:

SOC 2370 - Men, Women & Society in Global Perspectives 3 credits
SOC 3000 - Social Inequality & Justice 3 credits
SOC 4500 - Global Issues in Sociology 3 credits

In addition

nine (9) Sociology elective credits. 9 credits

Total Credits (minimum): 18

Note

Sufficient courses from the department’s offerings to meet the minimum requirements. No more than twelve (12) credits of lowerdivision work for the minor.
