Program Information
- All courses must be passed with a “C” (2.0) or better to be counted in the certificate.
- Students must complete their courses with an overall 3.0 GPA in the certificate.
- Students must submit a program of study with the department or the program director at least two (2) semesters prior to graduation.
- All requests for course substitutions must obtain prior approval from the program director.
- Students must submit, to the program director, the Final Approval Form which lists courses taken for the certificate, along with the current transcript the semester before they intend to graduate.
- The Certificate in International Relations is granted to students who meet Southern Utah University’s requirements for graduation with a bachelor’s degree.
- New courses, honors courses, and seminars may be accepted as allied courses. Prior approval from the program director is required.
Certificate Completion
This certificate program must be completed in conjunction with a bachelor’s degree. The certificate will be awarded at the same time as the bachelor’s degree and cannot be earned independently of a degree.

International Relations Curriculum (24 Credits)
Core Courses (6 Credits)
Students must take both of the following: Distribution Courses (9 Credits)
Complete three of the following: Political Theory Course (3 Credits)
Complete one of the following: Allied Discipline Courses (6 Credits)
Complete two courses from the following; no more than one course may be taken in a single category: Economics, Business, Finance, & Management
Languages
- One advanced language course (literature, culture, civilization) may be included as an allied course
Total Credits, Certificate: 24
Program Learning Outcomes
- Students will develop an understanding of the theory and practice of International Relations as well as an appreciation of its application in both historical and contemporary settings.
