Cybersecurity - Defensive Security (Certificate)

Return to: Programs by College/School
Program Summary
Traditional methods of cyber defense, like perimeter-based network security, have always emphasized the need of keeping adversaries out of our networks, building a ‘fortress’ that would stop attackers while allowing secure access to legitimate users. Defensive security is a proactive approach that focuses on prevention, detection, and response to attacks from the perspective of defending the organization. For example, blue teams are generally thought of as defensive security. Defensive cybersecurity focuses on protecting information systems and networks from potential attacks. It involves the implementation of security measures and protocols to safeguard an organization’s digital assets.
These courses offer a structured curriculum that equips a student with practical skills and theoretical understanding to become an effective defender against cyber threats.
Program Information
- All courses must be passed with a “C-” (1.7) or better to be counted in the certificate.
- Credits older than 10 years must be approved by the CSCY Department Chair before being allowed to count towards the major due to the rapid change in the industry.
