Program Summary

The Construction Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certificate is designed to prepare students for the widely recognized LEED Certificate (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), which is the world’s most commonly used green building rating system. LEED certification provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings offering environmental, social, and governance benefits. This certificate offers comprehensive coverage of environmental aspects that assist with a construction project to help outline and execute alternative methods in building design, contaminated waste processing, water transport, and other facets of engineering that will minimize unintended side effects.

Upon completion of the certificate, graduates will be prepared to work in environmental construction positions within the private and public (e.g., federal, military, state, and community) sectors that deal with pollution and contamination in all aspects of the built and natural environment. Graduates will help environmental engineers design systems for managing and cleaning municipal water supplies. They can use construction environmental disciplines to develop solutions to planetary health problems. Their work may involve waste treatment, site remediation, and pollution control technology.

Program Information

All courses must be passed with a “C-” (1.7) or better to be counted in the major.
Students must earn a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 to be awarded the certificate.

Certificate Completion

This certificate program may be completed independently and does not require enrollment in or completion of any degree program to be awarded.
