Program Summary
The minor in Academic English is targeted toward international English as a Second or Additional Language students who desire a credential of advanced English proficiency in academic and professional communication and culture.

Academic English Curriculum (20-26 Credits)
Foundation Courses (6 Credits)
Students are required to pass the following courses (or equivalent placement by exam) before they can enroll in higher-level courses:

Complete two of the following:

Program Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to read and interpret academic texts from a variety of disciplines, noting length, complexity, and time constraints.
- Students will be able to listen and process academic spoken discourse (such as lectures, meetings, presentations), identifying main ideas and key details.
- Students will be able to participate orally in large and small group discussion, and they will be able to deliver oral presentations based on academic content.
- Students will be able to write in academic genres using information from sources and from personal experience.
- Students will demonstrate proficiency in comprehending, using, and learning general academic and discipline specific vocabulary.
- Students will employ effective cultural and intercultural communication strategies in academic contexts.
