Program Summary

The School Library minor is designed for those interested in libraries or who seek to better understand the research resources available in the library. This course of study will not lead to public school endorsement.

Program Information

  • A minimum of nine (9) credits must be completed at SUU.

Program Learning Outcomes


  1. Explore school librarianship as a career.
  2. Employ a variety of strategies to foster the development of ethical digital citizens, enthusiastic readers, and discerning information users.
  3. Model, facilitate, and advocate for equitable access to and the ethical use of resources in a variety of formats.
  4. Integrate the National School Library Standards to foster a positive learning environment and prepare all learners for college, career, and life.
  5. Collaborate with a school’s learning community to strategically plan, deliver, and assess instruction. 
  6. Deepen understanding of children’s and young adult literature, digital and information literacies, and current instructional technologies. 
  7. Engage in leadership, collaboration, advocacy, and professional networking. 
  8. Apply digital tools, resources, and instructional technologies to design and adapt learning experiences.
