Music Education - Secondary Instrumental Emphasis (B.M.)

Program Summary

The Bachelor of Music in Secondary Instrumental Education degree prepares students to be exceptional high school music directors and teachers.  With a strong education component in addition to a rigorous musicianship curriculum, students are exceptionally trained and ready for any music classroom.

Please note: All students must complete a minimum of 30 credits between the Core and Knowledge Area requirements.

Professional Education Requirements for Secondary Licensure (20 Credits)


To qualify for a teaching license in Music Education, students must also complete an adapted sequence of professional education courses through the Department of Teacher Education . Some classes required for the licensure cannot be taken until the teacher candidate has been admitted to the College of Education and Human Development. Please consult your advisor or the Department of Teacher Education for further instruction.

Optional Elementary Endorsement (5 Credits)


Students may pursue an optional endorsement to teach at the Elementary level (grades K-6) by taking the following additional courses:
