EDUC 5701 - Nature of Science and Engineering

3 Credit(s) | See Department Fee

In this course, designed for K-6 teachers, participants explore a foundational component of Scientific Literacy, the Nature of Science (NOS), along with the Nature of Engineering (NOE). Specifically, participants explicitly and implicitly engage with aspects of the NOS and NOE to develop an understanding and knowledge of how the disciplines of Science and Engineering function. Additionally, participants experience phenomena-based, three-dimensional science instruction that supports the development of students’ conceptual science understanding and scientific literacy. Participants also consider ways to promote effective and equitable science instruction both in personal practice and in the science education community. This course is intended to be the first course in the ESE sequence. It provides foundational and critical background understandings from which all remaining courses will build. (As Needed) [Graded (Standard Letter)]
