BIOL 3290 - Developmental Biology

A study of animal development including an introduction to the mechanisms of cell division and differentiation, embryonic patterning, organ development, and errors in developmental regulation. The course will focus on genetic control of the developmental process with a focus on signal transduction pathways and gene regulation. Experimental methods, readings from the primary literature, and model systems, including C. elegans, Xenopus, zebrafish, chicken, and pig, will be emphasized throughout. A minimum grade of “C” (2.0 or above) must be earned in this course before it can be counted in a biological science major or minor or as a prerequisite for any other biology course.
