University Requirements


NOTE: As of 7/12/2019, students pursuing this bachelor’s degree are no longer required to complete the Experiential Education Requirement courses for graduation.

Experiential Education Requirement - EDGE Program (1-3 Credits)

Degree Requirements


BA Degree – Foreign Language (16 credits or proficiency test) (4 credits may be taken to fulfill the University Humanities GE requirement) 16 credits

Music Core Requirements (45 Credits)


(All students before achieving advanced standing must satisfy these requirements.)

Other Requirements (6 Credits):


  1. Music Theory: Students must be enrolled concurrently in Music Theory and Aural Skills classes.
  2. Piano Proficiency: Students must pass a piano proficiency exam. MUSC 1150  & MUSC 1160  may be taken to assist in preparation for the exam
  3. Ensembles: Each major must be a member of one of the following ensembles in his/her applied emphasis each semester: MUSC 3320 , MUSC 3360 , MUSC 3380 . The total minimum number of major ensemble credits required for a BA degree is 6.
  4. Junior recital in the B.A. Degree requires a junior year half recital. Students must enroll in applied music each semester until the recital requirement is met.
  5. In order to move to upper level study (3410) the student must pass the Sophomore Assessment..
  6. All music majors must take MUSC 1010  as a prerequisite for MUSC 3500  and MUSC 3510 . MUSC 1010  may be used to fulfill the Fine Arts Gen. Ed. Requirement.
  7. To fulfill graduation requirements, all zero credit courses must appear on the transcript.
  8. Each major or minor in music is required to abide by the policies and procedures set up in the Departmental Student Handbook. http://www.suu.edu/pva/music/handbook.html
  9. Every student is required to pass all classes in their major with a grade of “C” (2.0) or higher, except Applied Music which requires a “B” (3.0) or higher.
