Program Information

  • All courses must be passed with a C (2.0) or better to be counted in the major.
  • Aviation-related internship credits are strongly encouraged. Internship credits can be applied in the general elective block of the degree. The course instructor or Chair of Aviation Sciences will determine if an internship experience is aviation related. Students working toward this degree should register for AVTN 4890 - Professional Aviation Internship   for any internship credits the student would like to apply toward this degree. At the discretion of the Chair of Aviation Sciences, internship credits for AVTN 2890 - Aviation Internship  and potentially other internship courses at SUU may be applied towards the requirements of this degree. Any allowances will be applied by the appropriate substitution policy and documentation. A maximum of six (6) credit hours of internship credit may be applied toward this degree.
  • This program requires the completion of MATH 1040 - Statistical Inference . Students who are not prepared for this math course may need additional math credits/preparation, which may affect time to graduation. Please consult your Student Success Advisor for more information.

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree - Foreign Language Requirement 16 Credits

** Note: One semester of a foreign language may also fulfill the General Education  Humanities requirement. The 16 credits may be fulfilled by taking four semesters of a foreign language or by testing out of a language and purchasing the credits. Consult your Student Success Advisor for details.

Free Electives and University Requirements


Students’ total free elective credit is determined by their General Education courses taken, degree type selected (if applicable), additional credits earned, and any additional math or other prerequisite courses needed. Some students and/or programs may not have any free electives.

For a bachelor’s degree, students must earn

  • A minimum of 120 total credits;
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 in both SUU coursework and combined transfer/SUU coursework;
  • 40 upper-division credits , 20 of which are earned from SUU (students may need to select additional upper-division courses not included in their major requirements in order to reach this minimum 40); and
  • 30 credits completed  through SUU.

The Bachelor of Arts/Science in Aviation Management program at Southern Utah University develops leaders for the aviation industry by providing a comprehensive education that integrates safety awareness, business acumen, and aviation-specific knowledge. Degree requirements will:

  • Provide students with a strong foundation in business, safety management, and leadership principles applicable to aviation organizations and operations.
  • Develop students’ ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, within professional aviation contexts.
  • Enable students to interpret and apply knowledge about aviation regulations, industry standards, and safety information associated with global operational frameworks.
  • Cultivate analytical and technical competencies necessary to evaluate aviation operations, safety systems, and human factors.
  • Ensure students gain a broad understanding of the aviation industry including its economic, technological, and environmental dimensions.
  • Foster ethical and professional business practices, decision-making skills, leadership capabilities, teamwork attributes, and an understanding of the importance of commitment to lifelong excellence in aviation through continuous professional development.
  • Integrate academic learning through a culminating capstone, internship, or applied research experience that demonstrates mastery of communication, leadership, teamwork, and analytical skills essential for success in aviation management.
