Program Summary
The Construction Safety Planning Certificate is designed to prepare students for the widely recognized safety certifications offered by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), including the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) and Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC). This certificate offers comprehensive coverage of safety subjects and construction best practices in residential and commercial projects, including several building systems, such as electrical and mechanical systems, that act as essential for construction safety planning. The certificate is designed to instill a safety-first philosophy across all levels of construction projects. In addition, students will explore the role and function of safety administration in preventing accidents and complying with government agencies-adequate instruction for students to earn the 30-hour OSHA certificate. Students will be familiar with and able to navigate OSHA’s 1926 construction industry regulations document.
Upon completion of the certificate, graduates can emerge with the experience to neutralize the physical and environmental hazards that are a daily concern for construction professionals. They will be able to develop a construction site safety plan for every project, accounting for hazards unique to the project. They are also in charge of providing safety training for construction workers. The certificate can help graduates craft their leadership style, build their expertise, and better position themselves for career advancement, such as construction safety officers, managers, and consultants.
Program Information
- All courses must be passed with a “C-” (1.7) or better to be counted in the major.
- Students must earn a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 to be awarded the certificate.
Certificate Completion
This certificate program may be completed independently and does not require enrollment in or completion of any degree program to be awarded.
