Core Requirements (12-15 Credits)
Written Communication (English)
Complete six to eight (6-8) credit hours with a grade of “C-” or above:
Note
Students with ACT English scores at or above 29 will be awarded three (3) “Pass (P)” credits for ENGL 1010.
Quantitative Literacy (Mathematics)
Complete a minimum of three (3) credit hours with a grade of “C-” or above:
Note
Students with ACT Math scores at or above 26 will be awarded three (3) “Pass (P)” credits in MATH 1000E, which fulfills the Quantitative Literacy (QL) General Education requirement. This course may not fulfill major-specific QL requirements. Consult a Student Success Advisor for more information.
American Institutions
Complete three (3) credit hours with a grade of “D-” or above:
Note
Transfer students who have not completed the American Institutions requirement in their previous General Education program must complete this requirement at SUU. By prior approval of the appropriate department chair, more advanced classes may be counted toward General Education.
Knowledge Area Requirements (16-20 Credits)
Complete 16 to 20 credit hours with a minimum of 3 credit hours in each knowledge area (1 credit hour in Integrated Learning).
Integrated Learning
Complete one (1) credit hour with a grade of “C-” or above:
Fine Arts
Complete a minimum of three (3) credit hours with a grade of “D-” or above:
Humanities
Complete a minimum of three (3) credit hours with a grade of “D-” or above:
Social and Behavioral Sciences

Life Sciences

Labs in some Life Sciences courses are required to be taken concurrently with the lecture. Consult a Student Success Advisor for more information. Students pursuing a major in a science-related field are strongly encouraged to take a lab with their Life Sciences courses.
Physical Sciences

Integrated General Education Options
SUU offers options for students to complete two General Education Knowledge Areas in one team-taught 6-credit course. This dedicated time allows for deep investigation of relevant, timely topics that integrate the learning outcomes of two Knowledge Areas. Students must complete a minimum of 30 credits in their General Education program. If students do not meet this minimum number of credits from the required Core and Knowledge Areas listed above, they must complete additional General Education Core and/or Knowledge Area courses to earn the minimum 30 credits of General Education necessary. Course(s) used to reach the minimum 30 General Education credits must be earned with the minimum grade of their corresponding Core or Knowledge Area category.
