Program Summary

The Physical Education degree in Teaching/Coaching is a certifiable major approved for secondary teaching licensure at SUU. Please see Secondary Education Licensure  for requirements. Some classes required for the licensure cannot be taken until the teacher candidate has been admitted to the Department of Teacher Education . Please consult your advisor or the Department of Teacher Education for further information. Second, the PE in Teaching/Coaching major is designed to develop high quality coaches who possess an excellent understanding of coaching. The program of study provides you with understanding in coaching effectiveness, mental preparation and performance in sport, nutrition and conditioning for athletes, skill analysis, and athletic training.

  • All courses must be passed with a “C-” (1.7) or better to be counted in the major.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree - Math or Science minimum requirement 12 Credits

* Note: A portion of the B.S. requirements may be met by fulfilling the General Education  Core and Knowledge Areas. Because of this, these credits are typically not counted in the degree total at the bottom of page. Some students majoring in non-science fields may need additional math/science courses to reach the minimum 12 credits. Consult your Student Success Advisor for details.

Coaching Track (23-46 Credits)


An additional 23-46 credits are needed to needed to satisfy the 120 credit hour requirement for graduation. Seven (7) of the elective hours must be upper-division to satisfy the 40 upper division credits hours graduation requirement. Please consult your Student Success Advisor for details.

Teaching Track (36-39 Credits)


See the requirements for Secondary Education Licensure . Some classes required for the licensure cannot be taken until the teacher candidate has been admitted to the Teacher Education Program. Please consult your Student Success Advisor or the Department of Teacher Education  for further instruction. Additional free electives may be needed to satisfy the 120 credit hour requirement for graduation.
