General Education Requirement (32-35 Credits)

Experiential Education University Requirement - EDGE Program (3 Credits)


NOTE: As of 7/12/2019, students pursuing this bachelor’s degree are no longer required to complete the EDGE courses for graduation.

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree Requirement (16 Credits**)


B.A. Degree - Foreign Language Requirement (16 credits)

** Note: One semester of a foreign language may also fulfill the General Education Humanities requirement. The 16 credits may be fulfilled by taking four semesters of a foreign language or by testing out of a language and purchasing the credits. These credits are typically counted in the degree total at the bottom of the page. Consult a Student Success Advisor for details.

Music Core Requirements (45 Credits)


(All students before achieving advanced standing must satisfy these requirements.)

Other Requirements (6 Credits):


  1. Music Theory: Students must be enrolled concurrently in Music Theory and Aural Skills classes.
  2. Piano Proficiency: Students must pass a piano proficiency exam. MUSC 1150  & MUSC 1160  may be taken to assist in preparation for the exam
  3. Ensembles: Each major must be a member of one of the following ensembles in his/her applied emphasis each semester: MUSC 3320 MUSC 3340 , MUSC 3360 , MUSC 3380 . The total minimum number of major ensemble credits required for a BA degree is 6.
  4. Junior recital in the B.A. Degree requires a junior year half recital. Students must enroll in applied music each semester until the recital requirement is met.
  5. In order to move to upper level study (3410) the student must pass the Sophomore Assessment..
  6. To fulfill graduation requirements, all zero credit courses must appear on the transcript.
  7. Each major or minor in music is required to abide by the policies and procedures set up in the Departmental Student Handbook. http://www.suu.edu/pva/music/handbook.html
  8. Every student is required to pass all classes in their major with a grade of “C” (2.0) or higher, except Applied Music which requires a “B” (3.0) or higher.

Note: Students must earn at least 120 credits to satisfy university graduation requirements; because it is possible to complete all degree requirements with fewer than 120 credits, additional elective coursework may be required.
