The Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice administers an interdisciplinary academic program in international relations which can serve as the basis for a specialized study of political science, or for a study of international relations by students with majors in other departments. The purpose of the certificate is to increase academic interest in the study of international affairs and to offer students valuable certification for future applications for graduate study or professional careers.
The program requires the successful completion of eight courses, six of which must be chosen from the political science curriculum. Certification is conferred upon graduation with a bachelors degree. Requirements
- Students must submit a program of study with the department or the program director at least two semesters prior to graduation.
- Students must complete eight courses from the list established for the certificate program. At least six of these courses must be political science courses including two core courses: POLS 2100 - Introduction to International Relations , and POLS 4600 - Theories of International Relations
- All requests for course substitutions must obtain prior approval from the program director.
- Students must complete their courses with an overall 3.0 grade point average in the program.
- Students must submit, to the program director, the Final Approval Form which lists courses taken for the certificate along with a current transcript the semester before they intend to graduate.
- All courses must be completed with at least a “C”.
- The Certificate of International Relations is granted to students who meet Southern Utah University’s requirements for graduation with a bachelors degree.
