Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements (16 Credits)

BA Degree - Foreign Language - 16 credits (or proficiency test).  Note: 4 credits may be used to also fulfill the GE Humanities requirement.

Music Core Requirements (45 Credits)

(All students before achieving advanced standing must satisfy these requirements.)

• MUSC 0990 - Recital Attendance 0 credits (six semesters of SUU attendance)
• MUSC 1410 - Individual Applied Music Instruction 2 credits (course must be repeated once, for a total of 4 credits)
• MUSC 1110 - Music Theory I 3 credits
• MUSC 1120 - Music Theory II 3 credits
• MUSC 1130 - Aural Skills I 1 credits
• MUSC 1140 - Aural Skills II 1 credits
• MUSC 2110 - Music Theory III 3 credits
• MUSC 2130 - Aural Skills III 1 credits
• MUSC 2140 - Aural Skills IV 1 credits
• MUSC 2350 - Fundamentals of Conducting 2 credits
• MUSC 2410 - Individual Applied Music Instruction 2 credits (course must be repeated once, for a total of 4 credits)
• MUSC 3070 - Form and Analysis 3 credits
• MUSC 3410 - Individual Applied Music Instruction 2 credits (course must be repeated once, for a total of 4 credits)
• MUSC 3500 - Music History I 3 credits

Other Requirements (6 Credits):

1. Music Theory: Students must be enrolled concurrently in Music Theory and Aural Skills classes.
2. Piano Proficiency: Students must pass a piano proficiency exam. MUSC 1150  & MUSC 1160  may be taken to assist in preparation for the exam
3. Ensembles: Each major must be a member of one of the following ensembles in his/her applied emphasis each semester: MUSC 3320 , MUSC 3340 , MUSC 3360 , MUSC 3380 . The total minimum number of major ensemble credits required for a BA degree is 6.
4. Junior recital in the B.A. Degree requires a junior year half recital. Students must enroll in applied music each semester until the recital requirement is met.
5. In order to move to upper level study (3410) the student must pass the Sophomore Assessment..
6. To fulfill graduation requirements, all zero credit courses must appear on the transcript.
7. Each major or minor in music is required to abide by the policies and procedures set up in the Departmental Student Handbook. http://www.suu.edu/pva/music/handbook.html
8. Every student is required to pass all classes in their major with a grade of “C” (2.0) or higher, except Applied Music which requires a “B” (3.0) or higher.
