ORPT 1530 - Climbing Wall Instructor Certification 1 Credit(s) | $7.50 Fee
The course will focus on skills needed for teaching climbing on artificial climbing walls, including an overview of the climbing wall industry, and legal/risk management issues. This is not an introductory climbing course. You must be highly proficient at climbing and belaying prior to taking this course. See requirements below. Certification may be provided through the Climbing Wall Association (CWA) as a Climbing Wall Instructor. The variable fee associated with this course provides access to online modules through the CWA, is non-refundable, and does not guarantee your success in the class.
Current CWA requirements include:
Level 1 - 16 years old; minimum bouldering experience; can climb V0
Level 2 - 18 years old; 20 top rope climbing experiences (as a belayer); can climb 5.8
Level 3 - 18 years old; 40 lead climbing outings; can lead 5.9 (As Needed) [Graded Letter]
