ENVS 4900 - Environmental Policy: NEPA

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires federal agencies to assess the environmental effects of their proposed actions prior to making decisions. This course provides an overview and application of NEPA as it applies to working on Federally managed lands and Federally funded and permitted projects. Topics include an overview of NEPA, NEPA requirements and regulations, Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), other environmental policies that relate to NEPA, and the role of the public. A minimum grade of “C” (2.0 or above) must be earned in this course before it can be counted in a Geosciences major or minor or as a prerequisite for any other course.
