EDUC 5270 - STEM for Teaching K-6 Science

This course, designed for K-6 teachers, will focus on STEM integration through the lens of science. Participants will identify and distinguish STEM models as they examine, engage in, and implement science concepts. A variety of methods will be used to prove competency in science practices in relation to STEM including but not limited to written assignments, submission of lessons, assessments and activities, discussions and reflections. Competencies will include demonstrating integration models for science and other STEM disciplines and identifying careers in science, reflecting on science instruction highlighting the three dimensions of science instruction including the use of authentic phenomena, developing pedagogical practices to support disciplinary literacy instruction in science and the knowledge and skills to integrate STEM, and planning, implementing, and reflecting on science instruction highlighting integrating the content standards with other content areas.
