HIST 3240 - History of Rock and Roll

This course introduces undergraduates to the history and challenges of studying rock and roll as a social cultural force. Students will learn about the various ways in which rock and roll influenced American society including issues of race, sexuality, language, fashion, and conflicts between generations. Students will also explore the relationship between rock and roll and the social and political climate in which it was created. The course emphasizes the unprecedented challenges this musical style faced during the early years and the way it provided relevance to an ever-more-diverse society.
