PSY 4400 - Positive Psychology

This course will provide an introduction to positive psychology. Positive psychology encompasses the study of positive experiences, positive character strengths, positive relationships, and the institutions and practices that facilitate their development. Positive experiences include the mental state of flow and mindfulness and emotions about the present (e.g., pleasure, contentment, laughter), past (e.g., nostalgia, satisfaction, pride), and future (e.g., hope, optimism). The distinction among the pleasant life, the good life, and the meaningful life will be drawn. It is designed to explore the concepts, research behind the concepts, techniques, and exercises that enhance well-being. The format of the course will be didactic, experiential, and interactive.
