Changes to General Education
New Programs
New Courses & Course Changes
- The Department of Aviation Sciences switched over 40 non-flight-lab courses from the PILT prefix to a new AVTN prefix, as well as added several new courses on safety, security, administration, and management. They also added a few new PILT labs.
- In preparation for more specialized study, Department of Engineering and Technology created three new prefixes (CE - Civil Engineering, EE - Electrical Engineering, and ME - Mechanical Engineering) and have moved current courses under those prefixes as well as created new classes.
- To support new learning blocks in the Master of Interdisciplinary Studies (M.I.S.) , the Department of English , Department of History, Sociology, and Anthropology , and the Interdisciplinary Studies Program added over a dozen new courses at the graduate level. Some are crosslisted with undergraduate courses to facilitate the Graduate Bridge program.
- The Beverley Taylor Sorenson College of Education and Human Development changed the level of several upper-division teacher preparation courses to lower-division to better reflect the content of the course as well as facilitate an upcoming associate’s degree in Elementary Education.
- The Department of Psychology added minimum prerequisite grades to all of their courses to better reflect expectations for students.
- Several Chemistry courses in the Department of Physical Sciences have been updated to remove registration restrictions, which will allow for easier student registration.
Degree/Program Changes
- The Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business added a new required course to all of its bachelor’s degrees, as well as updated the requirements in the Finance (Minor) , Management (Minor) , and Marketing (Non-Teaching) (Minor) programs.
- Minor tweaks were made to Administrative/Supervisory License Leadership in Education & Administrative Development (LEAD) , Elementary Education (B.A., B.S.) , and Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs.
- In the College of Engineering and Computational Sciences , updates have been made to the aviation programs, Computer Science (B.S.) , and Mechanical Engineering (B.S.) . The Information Technology (A.A.S.) programs have been consolidated into one generalist degree, with the previous emphases being deleted.
- A few new elective options were added to the Human Nutrition - Allied Health Emphasis (B.S.) and Human Nutrition - Pre-Dietetics Emphasis (B.S.) degrees under the College of Health Sciences .
- In the College of Humanities and Social Sciences , the English - Creative Writing Emphasis (B.A.) added new elective tracks to help students focus on potential career goals. The Master of Interdisciplinary Studies (M.I.S.) expanded its program and added several new learning block options. The Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) made minor tweaks to the degree (and associated emphases), and Social Science Teaching Composite (B.A., B.S.) added “Teaching” to the degree name to make it clear that this program prepares students for a career in K12 education.
- The Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Sciences removed the program prerequisites for the Chemistry programs to allow students to declare the major sooner, as well as modified the Geology (Minor) program so that is open to all interested students, not just pre-service education students.
